Just last week I began experiencing a check engine light that appears to come on when the throttle is depressed to a certain spot. It doesn't matter what gear you are in, but it happens consistently at the same spot while depressing the pedal. TPS or something of that sort possibly? There is a slight power loss when the light kicks on, but besides that I've noticed no other symtoms. Any help or guess would be appreciated.
The TPS sounds like the most likely culprit, perhaps a 'dead spot' on the contact slide that trips up the EEC controller giving both an engine stumble and the error light. Try removing and cleaning the contacts with electronics cleaner first, then replacement should that fail to cure the problem.
If you look at your engine, you can see, where the black air hose from the cleaner ends, the throttle body. On the left you will see a black part (with a connector) attached to its side. That's the TPS.
That sounds like a problem I have. I have the 4.0L that does the same thing. I just need to know what "TPS" means. It sounds like Throttle Postion Sensor. I would like to know where it is located on this engine or if it is the same as the above message.
It was indeed the TPS. I though that it would be a quick fix with just two screws to remove, however I was wrong. The bottom bolt was pretty much frozen. At least for having to try to loosen it with a phillips head. Any how I finally got it out and installed the new one and all is well.
