Coolant level drops when engine hot and running

Degas bottle is showing coolant at min cold level when cold, but when engine is hot AND RUNNING, the bottle is almost empty. No coolant loss at cap or elsewhere. Runs perfect at the moment.

My concern is that air is getting into the heater circuit when the engine gets hot. I can see this via my "special" coolant filter. It has a clear housing.

The cold level is at the level updated by Ford (there is a sticker on the bottle).
It always returns to normal when I turn the engine off. I was thinking I might need to add coolant to compensate for the huge coolant filter I've got.

BTW, what's the concept of the new level recommended by Ford, if the level always drops when the engine gets hot. Thanks for the feedback.

the level is correct if it returns back and you have no loss.
the reason for the reduced level from ford was to reduce pumping of coolant out of the bottle with and if the system vents pressure.

Thanks! That would only happen if my rig ever actually got hot enough to do so and I can't ever get it over 195 on the hottest day.

...and what is the OIL temp? The thermostat is a 190* stat. So you're right on with the coolant temp!

My oil cooler is clotted up (that's why the call it a Power Stroke). So my EOT is high (210-220) when I get on the freeway on a hot day. Otherwise around town my EOT is around 200 and ECT will be around 188.

I'm not to worried about my oil cooler at the moment as I've do a few back flushes and can move a LOT of water through it so I know its not lacking in coolant flow just not working perfectly as a heat exchanger.

I would be concerned with the ect/eot delta...EGR cooler may be at risk.

I switched to Delco ELC and installed a big *** coolant filter, the coolant system is actually very clean with very little sediment in the filter. I know for a fact that my oil cooler will flow at least 10 GPM of coolant and my EX never shows signs of over heating. As a mater of fact I feel that my oil cooler is clogged just the right amount as it lets the oil get up to 212F which in my opinion is a good thing. I am still trying to get my over all Delta down a bit "For Science".

I'd like to find the right chemical treatment to un-clot my oil cooler. (somthing like Coumadin for the 6.0L)

When the oil is 212, what is the coolant temp? If over 15* diff, your engine oil cooler may be compromised. Considering you have been running at highway speed and temps are at normal operating temps. Like for 30 minutes or more.

I know nothing. So, now that the cat is out of the bag:

http://brandon314.files.wordpress.co...selections.pdf

Scroll down to page 20. At least they admit they have drop out issues that become gel like. Which is what our oil coolers look like when folks have cut them in half.

This is what they say should be used to remove it. Page 26.

Just a thought here folks. Not recommending it as a new way to do back flushes or anything.

Sorry, maybe I'm just paranoid - but this doesn't sound right.

Is the TOP of your coolant filter BELOW the "min mark" on the
degas bottle? I wonder if your coolant filter "drains" when
the engine stops running?

Is you coolant filter made of clear plastic? and therefore
"expand" under pressure?

I think you want to ensure the highest passages in the engine
are full of coolant. Coolant expands when hot - if your degas bottle
is "almost empty" that fluid has gone somewhere and then
returns back after you shut the engine down.
