We bought new hood hinges for our 1953 F-100. Yes, it helped with closing the hood straight and aligning it BUT now we have lost at least 5" of opening space and the hood won't stay up. Please, does anyone know why this might have happened and what we can do about it? The installer said that the springs in the hinges are not strong enough so now we're trying to find something to use as a hood prop.

You probably need to release tension on the spring, rotate 1/2 turn and reinsert in slot. Don your helmet and body armor, then put the spring back on adding the extra half turn of tension. If you don't fear for your life, your not doing it right.
