Well this is off the subject of the heater cables but I didn't want to start a new thread for this.
Do you guys think the tranny cab floor cover should be white or black?
I was thinking black but everyone else tells me it should be white. My inside of the cab is going to be painted all white, other than some black components.
Well, I believe they all start out black. Mine is black on the underside as is the rest of the bottom of the truck. The top side is off- white like the rest of the interior of the cab. Paint it what you want to!
Ok back onto heater cables I made this up today and I think it will work out ok.
I bought a universal 6' choke cable for $5 yesterday. I broke the handle off of it and sawed off a junk cable of mine but I then had to drill out the plastic ****. The new cable slips in the old **** but is loose so I think I will have to Epoxy the old handle on the new cable.
I also had to put a washer in the chrome bezel to take up some of the slop because the new cable is a smaller thread diameter. The original had a flat side but the new cable slips through without a flat side. The washer helps eliminate some of the slop and also helps center the cable in the bezel.
trans tunnel covers were always black on both sides...the cab was shot in color before part 1 was added to it during original assembly....at least thats what I have seen on every truck or van with a removable doghouse/trans tunnel cover.
how do you get it to fit on the duct door given the originals have a 3 or 4 round hooped end on them?

I working on these cables again last week and I came up with an idea on how to have the cable hook on the kick panel vent door. I am going to try and use a nylon spacer which will act as the loop on the end of the old cables. What I am going to do is wrap the cable around it once and epoxy it to the nylon spacer. I will try to have some pictures soon.
I think the cables you're looking for are on this link towards the bottom. I haven't bought anything from this company (John's F-Fun Hundreds in Pomona, Ca.) and haven't read anything about them....is anyone familiar with them? Here's the link:
It has been a few years but I bought stuff from John's F-Fun Hundred. They were fine, I called and talked to them first and if I remember right that only work part time, so you have to call a few times.
I would be comfortable buying something like this from them.
I went to try it out on the truck and found out I couldn't get the nut off to put the bezel on oops... easy overlooked detail
It doesn't help when the thread size is smaller than the original either I have been doing some thinking about it and I think I am stuck with trying to wrap the end up by hand like the original.
I like your idea, but can't you install the cable, bezel, etc first, then run the cable to the vent and epoxy in place?
I guess I could do that easily enough, I liked the nylon spacer as well. I picked up a couple smaller sizes to see if they would work but I don't think they will. As far as being able to put the bezel/nut on and off the cable.
I didn't like trying to wrap the cable around like the original it looked really sloppy. Plus it was kind of hard to do.
