3.7 Crew Cab owners please chime in!!

Im pondering an 11 or 12 crew cab f150 for my wife. I've been reading a lot of good about the 3.7 but im a little unsure as to how it will perform in a CC. It's use in my household will be 85% grocery getter and interstate traveler for my wife, 14% pulling a 17ft center console 20mi to the lake few times a summer, and I may use it to pull a car once a year or so with my 1500lb car hauler (usually when family or friend is broke down or something)

I'm looking mostly for a good gas saving roomy truck for her...hence the reason im considering a 3.7. So all you 3.7 owners how do you like it so far with light towing, and interstate travel?

for the record my truck is an 05 STX supercab 4x4 with a level kit and 33's on it, and I do all the above with that truck ok....but as you can imagine, the bigger tires, 4.6 2v, and the 4sp tranny its at its limits when i tow, but everything im reading suggests a 2wd 3.7 with the new 6sp (on stock tires) should be a ton better for what I do??

thanks

the six speed make that motor a good choice but why not get an eco boost and forget about it? with the right rear end gears you will have a very good daily driver!
with that said i think the 3.7 will do what you want it to do.

After having owned an Ecoboost now, I can't imagine why they make any other engines...

You really have to drive an Ecoboost for a while to fully appreciate it. The hp is good, but the real beauty of the engine is how fast it gets to full torque, and how far through the rpm range it holds it. And neither the 3.5 nor turbochargers are new, so I'm really not concerned about reliability. If you research it you'll find the 5.0 has quite a few hiccups itself. Some people are just leary of change, hence the hypersensitivity about the Ecoboost. It's too bad....they're really missing something good.

My next truck will more than likely be an EB. The company I work for is updating the foremans trucks and I'd say 95% are CC EB's. I want to drive one, but with only 24k on mine that might be a bad idea

I haven't read about any hiccups in all 3 engines to be honest....I do plan on driving an ecoboost but I wanted to get some real world reviews of the base motor...it's gunna be her truck, and you can get a lot more features for the money if it's got a 3.7 in it...

A co-worker of mine rented a 2012 Reg cab F-150 from U-haul to carry some furniture. He said he calculated his MPG's at 25 upon refueling the truck to return it. It had the 3.7L and was a 4x2.

If my bride decided she wanted a truck for her next vehicle, the 3.7L is what I would get for her.

From what I'ev read I think the 3.7 would be more than adequate. I guessing your 05 is 220 hp verses 305 hp on the new truck. Throw in the 6 speed trans and it will out work your truck all day long. Just my .02

I have a 2011 Super Crew 4x2 with the 3.7. I purchased it last August and all I can say is that I love my truck. I find this little engine to have all the power I need. I only tow a tent trailer and a utility trailer with it, so it has more than enough power to meet my needs. I also average 25 mpg with my truck. I'm thinking that it'll only get better once it's fully broken in. I'm currently just under 8 000 miles.

I walk to work, so my mileage is all pleasure LOL!
