fast help needed

OK my son & one of his buddies got in on a engine swap of a 92' f1504x4.
now converting a 86' to a 92' 351/5.8. They have been working after hours, with it being SOooo hot, progress has been slow. now the owner wants his truck ASAP

basically they pulled a tired 5.8 out and swapped in a better (possibly), engine from a 86'. They swapped the intake from the 92' engine but used the heads from the 86' to put it in the 92' f150.

the question is... what is this exhaust port out the front of the heads (both banks) & what size are those threads???...(guessing 5/8-11 or are they metric?), so they can plug them.

the 92' heads have some sort of insert threaded in them....kinda doubt that they can be removed, gonna suspect they were lock-tighted in.?? IDK

Have they short stepped their way to a bunch of headaches by not keeping the 92' heads?

appreciate the help

Your guess of 5/8-11 is correct!

Your boys put the heads on backwords, and not only that they removed the relatively high compression EFI heads and installed low compression smog heads. Those large air injection holes are supposed to go to the back where there is a tube connecting them with a series of valves and the air pump, and yes that system is on these EFI trucks.

thanks...truck is delivered but I'll pass it along all the same.

I did notice several engine builders (on line) have mounted them wrong then too.

in regards to the original heads...they were run way too long with a bad head gasket....melted a rim of a couple pistons & were warped pretty badly. & the original heads had the front ports plugged

Usually the front ones have a thread reducer from the 5/8" to 7/16-14 to mount the acc. brackets. I got a set of AFR heads that were both the same, both had the inserts for use on the right side of motor,

yep, the old engine and heads had these "inserts". they tried to remove them but tore them up too much in the process ....presume some loc-tite was used
