Tomorrow im going to look at a 2000 Model F-350 7.3 crew cab with a flatbed on it... what do i need to look for when looking over the truck? guy says it has 200xxx miles on it and hes driving a little over a hour to meet me with it its a XL truck 2wd DRW automatic
Well for the price you can't go wrong. If the truck has good power and drives good you have a keeper. You can pull the intake tube on the turbo and look for damage to the compressor blades. Beyond that just look it over for general condition. It has gone 200k, she is just now broke in and can be kept up for many more miles.
Thats kinda what i was thinking, i was looking for the older body style fords really but stumbled across that one and figured id give it a shot, and the guy is driving it about 65 miles to meet me with it
Guy started driving it this way and the brakes on it locked up he had a mechanic look it over an say master cylinder ... we had a GMC 2500 do similar and it was were they were ran off the power steering pump for.power brakes ... are super duty's like that to?
guy says that its got the truck completely locked down and wont over power them... kinda worries me because i want to drive the truck down the hwy before i bought it... and hes not wanting to fix it and just said hed knock it down to 2000 to cover the repair cost... but he said that where it stopped at 2 mechanics looked it over and said it was master cylinder... i tried to get him to bleed the brake lines at the master cylnder to see if it would free them up,,, either way he said it moved 6 feet and froze up again so its not even enough to get on a trailer and im not paying a wrecker fee for 125 miles not to mention what hed tear up dragging it with all 6 tires locked up onto the rollback
Ha. Well, you may just have dodged a bullet. Makes me wonder if it's not really the master cylinder, but rather the tranny.
But for $2,000, that's a cheap "parts truck" if you already have a 99-2003, and have the space to park it. Pull the engine, and rebuild it the way YOU WANT IT at a leisurely pace and as money is available for the "goodies," and whaaa-laaaa!
Boy what a bummer!! That looked like it would have been heck of deal!! Crew Cab to!! You would think if you cracked the brake lines it should free it up? 2K would be hard to pass up!!
If the master cylinder is really holding the brakes locked .For that price I would show up with my trailer and loosen up the blenders on the calipers and drive it on the trailer and pull it home. If i had to guess i would think a caliper or two are siezed, verry common on these trucks. Hopefully he didn't hurt the Trans trying to overcome the dragging brakes. I have a friend that would do anything for a deal like that. It's extremely hard to find any 7.3 trucks around here for under 10k.
CrewCab ! I agree there is more than $2000 in parts! If he has a way to haul it home it just might be a easy fix!!! A running engine got to be worth a few bucks at least! If it was close I think I would be haulin it home and I don't need a truck but I know when money can be made !!
im considering it still... BUT it all started when they guy all of a sudden 'couldnt find' the title this morning... but i was willing to accept it with a bill of sale NOTARIZED of course and the agreement that he was gonna be standing at the door when they opened tomorrow to have a new one sent out....
I do have a trailer.... 3 ofem actually which is why i was looking at a Dizzle to relieve my F150 of hauling duty's and my dads got a 2500HD Gmc so i could pull it home but i want something thats running and was really hopping to have by Saturday to haul the Race truck to the track but looks like the F-150 will be doing hauling duty again
im still considering it but the guy made the comment that 'it maybe the rear end locked up' after i had made it home to get the trailer... and his story on reason's for selling mainly so cheap changed from last night and not just a small bit
I pretty much have... it sucks because I was really digging the truck and was already looking at a gooseneck to haul the old ford and the jeep to the races
