TPS Mystery 1996 7.3L Diesel

After removing the pedal assembly this morning, I noticed that the TPS had to be rotated forward for it to fit the control slot. This changes the voltage slightly making for the P0221 failure code to occur. It is a dirty area and the TPS will wear over time. I find it unconscionable that Ford institutes planned obsolescence in its pedal design. That is why you have to buy the entire pedal assembly instead of just adjusting the TPS, which can’t be done the way their design is. Some people have stated that they tried two or three other TPS units and finally got it to work.
As long as the voltage at idle is under .65VDC, you are OK otherwise a code is generated. At .65VDC, the engine starts to accelerate.
I took the pedal assembly, placed in my vice and pushed out the brass control tab shaft a quarter inch until it was clear of it’s internal bracket on both sides and adjusted the shaft so the TPS would be in it’s static position with no tension on the center rotor. Pressed it back together, screwed the TPS back on, installed it, cleared the codes and wallah! It works great! In addition, the blinking OD light went out as did the P0476 Exhaust Back Pressure code. Good learning experience and only cost $38.00 for a new TPS. Saved $150 not having to buy a new pedal assembly.
Thank you for all of your inputs and technical support.
