Hey all, the wifey went out to the Ex this morning to make a coffee run and came right back in. "truck won't start" hands me the keys. So I go out there and turn key, ALL lights and power comes on but when you try and crank it there's a tiny 'click' and then NOTHING AT ALL. Alternator's brand new and so is the battery (less than 2 months old). And it has never done this before.
just tried to jump it and still nothing. Just called autozone and they have a Haynes in stock for it, I'm gonna go pick one up real quick so I can locate parts easily. What should I check for next? starter relay/fuse? Like I said, just a tiny 'click' followed by nothing.
I second the "start in neutral"
From time to time I have the same thing, when I start in neutral it starts right up. Or if I go from park to neutral then back to park it fires right up. I think something is shorted out in there.

Any Ideas?
Until you tell us which engine you have, the help given will be generalized and not specific to the engine you have because it makes a HUGE difference.

To the OP, either put the specifics of your Excursion in your sig (see mine for an example) or make sure you put the specifics in EVERY new thread you start, so we can tailor our answers for your setup.
Sorry for the delay I got called out to an emergency job to south Florida right after I posted that, I'll be back home sometime this afternoon to check it out. Im gonna switch the relay out and see if that works.
Engine details are in sig now so no more confusion lol.
Bad Starter brushes , or dirty armature(hard to fix). I would charge the battery overnight or load test it. Replace the starter if your still having trouble.
