I'm currently in the market to buy a new computer chip. I do have a couple questions. First I have a 1997 Ford Explorer, AWD, 5.0L V8, 4 door. I also have a Gibson exhaust, K&N air filter (soon to be FIPK), 180 degree thermostat, and use 89-92 octane fuel, and occasionally 87.
Ok:
1.) Do all the chips use the same port, or can I get two seperete ports an this have 2 tuner chips? (I'm very new to this.)
2.) What chip do you recommend best? Why?
3.) What chip will give me the best performance and highest horsepower and torque increase?
4.)What are the difference chip manufacturers? I've onlyseen one or two for a 5.0L Ford 1997 SUV.
5.) Can you use the same year chip for a different car? Like if I were to buy a 1997 5.0L Mustang chip, could I us it on my Explorer?
6.) How well do they increase performance. I mean, with more horsepower and torque, plus new shift points and shift firmess, does it make a big difference?

All chips use the same port. There is only one port. A "tuner" uses a different port (OBDII) but a tuner cannot be used with a chip.
2.) What chip do you recommend best? Why?
The Diablo Delta 2 stage chip. The performance mode requires premium but the switch allows you to switch to the stock (87 octane) tune.
3.) What chip will give me the best performance and highest horsepower and torque increase?
Diablo, on average, has better increases than Superchips.
4.)What are the difference chip manufacturers? I've onlyseen one or two for a 5.0L Ford 1997 SUV.
The different is the performance and the level of support, plus the hardware. Superchips does not have 4 bank chips (you can't work around non-start issues) and since their Microtuners came out their chip support has declined. Diablo has been and continues to be very supportive of their chip market.
5.) Can you use the same year chip for a different car? Like if I were to buy a 1997 5.0L Mustang chip, could I us it on my Explorer?
You would need to have the chip reprogrammed.
6.) How well do they increase performance. I mean, with more horsepower and torque, plus new shift points and shift firmess, does it make a big difference?
Another question: How would I change between the stanges on a Diablo (what I'm going to buy) Delta 2. I plan on using both 87 and 93 octane. Is it something hard or easy?
The 2 stage chip cannot switch on the fly. You would need to turn off the ignition to switch between stock and 93. Only the 3 stage chip allows switch on the fly. The chip comes with a 5 foot cable with a switch on the end.
And webmaster, I know where the computer box is......where is the number I need on the box? Is in out the outside below the harness? I see the wire harness that plugs into the box that holds the chip, is it on that box? There are like 4 seperate numbers.
Does F57F sound like the one?
I'm hopefully buying a chip from your storenext week, and want to make sure on the right number I'm getting.
