I was just sitting here thinking. Why has ford changed so many different diesel engines over the last ten yr. I mean they have changed it what four times.

These guys should be able to answer your question...
The EPA has changed the rules for the road very much in the past 10 years.
You could buy a 7.3L in an F250 up to 2007 or 2008ish if you lived in the right country. Australia for example.
They have had more than 4, or just one, depending on how you count. The 6.9 and 7.3L IDI, the 7.3L Power Stroke, the 6.0L Power Stroke and the 6.4L Power Stroke were not Ford engines. They were International engines. The 6.7L Power Stroke is the first Ford engine
and as trey said - thank your local EPA "be a rat crat" ! and they've done SO much to clean up the air and FIX global warming since they started....
(if it was so bad when they started, wonder why it is worse after years of their rules ?!? )
Ford choose not to grease the palms of the right people ...
It wasn't Ford, it was International. They got caught cheating by the EPA and had to meet tighter restrictions sooner than other manufacturers. International determined that the 7.3L couldn't meet those standards, so they developed the 6.0L. I was out of the picture by the time the 6.4L came along, so I don't know the justification for that one. The 6.7L came about because International did such a horrible job with the 6.0L.
So what are your thoughs on the newest engine being put in the trucks now. Not want a mud slinging war here just true facts on people thoughts and experinces with them.

There are some reports of catastrophic failures (Valve to piston contact, bent rods, cracked pistons..) but the number or failures to number of units sold is very low. MUCH lower than the 6.0L and that was still less that 1%

You should browse the 6.7L Power Stroke engine forum and decide for yourself. Keep in mind, however, that guys usually only post if they have a problem not because they are tap dancing happy and want the world to know (although that does occasionally happen).
