my bronco has not shifted real well since i have owned it... sort of harsh.. but recenly i have been trying to get to the root of the problem... and so far i have replaced the rear end, changed the fluid and filter and several motor mounts, now it is a bit better, but still not what i think it should be... it kicks into gear really hard 1 to 2 is the worst but with a light foot all of them are a bit touchy. if you get on it the shifts feel good. there is a good thump when you go into drive or reverse as well... the other odd thing about this issue is that it sometimes gets better then seems to get worse after you drive on the freeway.
I am hoping this is an issue with some electronics or somthing basic because i am not very excited about forking out a ton of cash for a new tranny... any suggestions as far as what it could be are greatly appreciated, i am bringing it in on monday to have someone who knows what they are doing look at it... i just hope it is an easy fix...
Sounds like an internal problem. If you are lucky it is just a sticky valve.
My F250 had those harsh shifts which sometimes would go away. It also had torque shudder. All of that was caused by my stupidity and not checking atf before towing a heavy rig. The truck and tranny seemed to run fine except for the harsh shifts.
Had to rebuild it due to brittle overheated seals and torque shudder.
A harsh shift from 1 to 2 is a classic symptom of a mis-adjusted TPS/FIPL (Throttle Position Sensor for gassers; Fuel Injection Pump Lever for diesels). I posted the testing and fixing of the problem back on April 4th to another guy who was having problems. Do a search by typing in TPS FIPL. My two cents.

Well My 1990 Bronco does the same thing. It shifts with authority (HARD) through all the gears, and while putting it into gear!!. The reason mine does this is because I have the HD E4OD. Maybe you also have the HD?
