@*#^(@^# electrical problem

hope someone can help, I'm pulling my hair out (again)

I have a 94 E-e50 ambulance w/ a 7.3 IDI and an E4od tranny. The other day the alternator fried. It was a leece 165 amp. I replaced the alternator no problem, recharged the batteries, and it started right up and showed proper output.

I drove it about 10 miles, got to my destination, and it WOULDN'T turn off!!!

The key didn't turn it off, the battery disconnect didn't turn it off, unhooking both batteries altogether wouldn't turn it off!

Finally, i pulled the wire off of the injector pump that is closest to the front, closest to the driver side. That did it!

Since then then I have found that even when the ign. switch is off, there is 12 volts on that wire. When it is disconnected, the engine immediately quits, and the 12 volts goes away.

on the advice of 2 different people, I replaced the column ign. switch. Didn't solve the problem.

If anyone has any idea how 12v is getting to that wire around a closed ign switch, id love to know.

Is the BATT light always on? Disconnect the field and sense wires from the alternator and see if the 12v on ignition goes away.
