Hot Air

Currently headed down to Destin, FL from Dallas, TX. From the start, the A/C doesnt feel like it is blowing ice cold like it usually does. When I brake, hot air is blowing out of the vents instead of cool air. Also, rarely I'll have the whole A/C unit not turn on when I start her up. (This is a separate problem that hasnt happened in a few month, just thought I would add the "symptom" if it is related)?Any ideas on both problems?

Thanks!
-Brandon

Climate control panel not powering up sometimes is a common complaint. Mine has done it a couple of times also. Restart usuially fixes mine but some have posted turning the headlights on and off wil bring the display up. It probably depends on where the bad solder joint is inside the panel. If it's powered up the a/c should work ok. You could pop the hood with it running and verify the compressor is running. If not, might be a leak/low charge. If it is running check that the small diameter, hard plastic grey vacume line is connected to the heater control valve. It's on the 5/8 coolant line to the heater core just behind the oil fill tube. If your truck doesn't have a valve there, make sure the vacume line is plugged or attached to the bolt/stud on the heater box cover so that it's not leaking.
