I'm looking to buy my wife a 1st generation Expedition and have a few questions hopefully you can answer.
We have the need for a 7+ passenger 4x4 that will see alot of snowy roads but not much more than dirt roads as far as off-roading. (I have an 83 fj60 already.) After considering all the options the Expedition seemed to fit the need best. This will be the first Ford that we have owned so I'm a little unfamiliar with some of the specifics. Hopefully you can help.
To get an all black one do you have to buy an xlt? It seems all the black Eddie Bauer ones havve tan accents. And is it possible to have an all black model with tan interior?
Air suspension,or LLS,load leveling suspension was an option. To see if the vehicle has it open the rear hatch, there's a removeable panel on your immediate left, open the panel. There is a re-set for the fuel system there and if it has air suspension there should be a shut off switch also. You can also look under the truck for air bags in the rear suspension if you don't mind doing a little crawling under there. Make sure the 4WD features all work before you buy,ie no flashing of the A4WD,4WDHI,or 4WDLo indicators, and if the truck really does go into 4WD,if there's a problem there walk away and keep looking at other trucks. Go back through the old threads here for more ideas on what to look for in the way of possible trouble areas. Good Luck.
Yes, both the '97 EB and the XLT had Black Clearcoat as options. I have the brochure right in front of me, I kept it, since I ordered mine new in March '97. It now has 112K miles on it and is like new.
I've been extremely pleased with my '97 XLT under all kinds of conditions and service. It's never failed me, but did burn up a LSD when the Ford people changed the rear lube and didn't put in slip modifier. When I heard the noise I took it back in and they replaced it for free.
As mentioned before, thoroughly check out the LSD, the transfer case, and gear change mechanisms so you see they actuall work, without excessive noise or vibration.
Hope this helps.
when you say both were available in black clearcoat, do you mean the EB version was available in an all black scheme or black clearcoat with the tan accents?
