I was wondering if someone can help me to save a tow to the dealership. I have a 2005 ford expedition and it stranded my wife tonight. She said is was driving totally normal and all of a sudden the check engine light came on and also the little wrench (Electronic Throttle Control) came on and would barley drive, max 8 MPH and when you hit the gas nothing happened. I looked that up in the manual and I guess the wrench is basically a limp home mode it says. How do I pull the code of the check engine light. I know my dodge truck I can do a few on and off of the key and it will tell me the code, can you do that with fords?
Any help at all would be great, I would love to find out this is a simple fix so I can just do it myself.
Well I have an update to this one, after reading all over the INTERNET my problem was pointing down to a "TPS" Throttle Position Sensor, replaced that today and still having the issues.
Can any one help me out here with ideas? Error codes it through are P2104, P2110 and P2111
Replaced just the TPS based on many things I have read on the internet. My wife really needs it so I am going to just have to take it to the dealer today, I dont want to but I need to have it fixed
No reason to go to the dealer and get shafted on something simple like that. The will fix it but the labor will cost twice as much in addition to the parts they will bend you over for. I would find an independent with a good reputation if that's the route you are going.
I hope you told them that you want all of the old parts that they replace. FYI the vacuum hoses may be what looks and feels good and properly connected but, to properly inspect tha connections you must remove the elbows at the manifold and inspect the inside of the bend. That's where they go bad and cause all kinds of codes to set in the ECM. The dealer tech will have to pull the codes and based on his experience be able to find the problem and make the correction in a minimal time with the fewest parts being replaced.
Well here is the deal. They called me back today and said they were unable to reproduce the problem but did find two stored codes from the the first time this happened Thursday night, P2104 and P2110, P2111 seems to have vanished once I changed the TPS and cleared the codes by pulling off the neg wire from the battery. They did say there was an update to the onboard computer system and reprogrammed it, they said the was more than likely NOT the cause but to try it out and see if the problem comes back.
They said if it does, its more than likely the throttle body needs to be replaced. Have the vehicle back now and am crossing my fingers I don't have to buy a throttle body as they are $365.00 just for the parts.
Have you taken a vacuum reading while the engine is at idle and again at cruising speed?
If not, do it and post your readings. You may be surprised what a vacuum gage can tell you.
No I have not, that is a little over my head and I would not know the first thing about doing that. The car failed on me again tonight leaving me and my family stranded in a parking lot. I called a tow truck and its now back at the dealer so, we will see what codes it through this time and hoping more than anything they can pin point the issue this time.
Well not sure if you all wanted an update on this but here it the deal if you are interested. I replaced the TPS, didn't work, the dealer replaced the throttle body, didn't work. They said it had to me the PCM, replaced that and its been working for two days now, $1,200 later.
Thank you for all your tips on this, stinks the dealer won again!!
I have a 2005 Expedition Eddie Bauer. I was driving down the road going about 50 mph when I received a check engine throttle message. The engine stopped and so did the power steering and brakes. I had to get over two lanes of the highway and barely avoided an accident.
I took it to a local Ford Dealer and was told that the Throttle Body needed to be replaced. They replaced at a cost of nearly $700. I started researching this issue on the internet and have found hundreds of similar complaints. I've contacted the NHTSA as well as Ford and there is no recall at this time.
This could be a potentially deadly error on Ford's part. I'm starting a class action lawsuit and I am looking for other owners that have had the same issue. You can contact me at jschmidt122@comcast.net. I am also starting a website to help other owners get more information about this issue. The site is www.FordExpeditionRecall.com. Please feel free to contact me if you want more information on this problem or have any questions. Thanks Jason Schmidt
