for the last month or so i have had issues with my battery dieing over night with absolutly no reason to my knowledge. i was told i might have a dead cell in my battery and then yesterday as i was driving home my escape died. when i finally got someone to give me a jump start it stayed on for 5 min while i waited to let it chage up a bit it died again and would not turn over now i know it could be my altenator or it could be my battery or it could be my voltage regulator the battery issue is an easy fix but the best part is i can jump the car and drive it for a few min. befor it dies again so the battery is taking a charge but its not being charged while im driving any sugestions befor i go and blow a money on something that may not have been an issue befor
thank u very much for the welcome is there any really good guides on how to remove the alt. out of my escape i know where it is but i dont know how to get it out
When you jump, you have a bit of time while juice is going from the 'donor' into your battery. I agree that you likely have a bad alternator. Start it, and check the running voltage at battery, I think it should be 14.6 or near. If you only run the engine and don't use any accessories or lights, the ignition system could be run from a 9-volt for a while as it uses very little current{slight exaggeration, but it might work}.
Re removal. Out the bottom is most common, most need to loosen or remove the center support for the drive axle. One enterprising soul removed the intake manifold and took the alternator out the top.

Sounds to me like alternator. The Escapes tend to put out 13.8vdc once warmed, and may drop down to 13.6 or so with many accessories on. Deeper then that and the Alt is toast, like many are on Escapes.
The average shade tree time for an Escape alt is 6 to 8 hours, providing you have all the tools.Front axle shaft nut comes off, knuckle is removed from top or bottom mounts, driveshaft is removed, alt unbolted, alt bracket unbolted and removed, the alt is massaged between motor and body to get it out.
Considering the work, this is not the time for a cheap auto parts store rebuilt unit, something that many different vehicle platforms have had to replace under warranty after a few months. Great that the alt replacement is free, but do you want to do / pay for the labor again?
