dead battery charging ?

Can I charge a dead battery by just pulling it out of the vehicle and hook it up with jumper cables to a running vehicle? The dead vehicle is in my 1 stall garage, and I don't have a battery charger. I just wanted to make sure I won't hurt anything if I try hooking it up like that, thanks.

I'd buy a charger, charging a dead battery puts a very heavy load on the alternator.

Charging a battery by an alternator doesn't do the best job,

The best is a constant 5-8 amp over night charge with a battery charger

How long has the battery been dead? Unless it is a "deep cycle" battery, running a battery totally dead will drastically effect the life of a "regular" battery. I agree, it's best to use the lower current of a battery charger, for a longer time.

Yep, what gas costs a gallon now, you would be ahead to buy a small battery charger. It would take awhile to do it like you describe.

A buddy of mine just loaned me his charger, so I'll use that thanks for the advice guys.

I dont think it's totally dead, it just didnt have the juice to turn it over long enough for it to fire, it's been sitting for a few weeks.
