Question Electric Fans

I was thinking of removing my old Rad fan and installing one of those eletric fans.

I can get a electric fan that says it moves around 2100 cfm for $88 that is a 16 inch.

The fan is a puller.

Also currently I am having some over heating problems, so I was thinking this might help..

I am going to replace the stock rad with one of those alum two row, 1 inch think pipe kinds this weekend also..

Do you think this is a good idea to install an electric fans ???

Thanks in advance

I would make sure you have the overheating problem fixed before you go with the electric fan conversion. That way if it starts overheating again, you will know right away it's the new fan causing the problem.

Electric Fans

Remember, if you mout the fan right to the radiator, the only thing with air going through it is that 16" circle, where as a mechanical fan pulls through the whole radiator. I have sucessfully used electric fans by fabricating a shroud that the fan mounted in, approx 3" from the radiator so it would pull from the entire surface of the radiator. The aluminum radiator will help, of course, but it is not the cure-all. Like the Wiz said, just replace the radiator first and see if your problem goes away. If it does then you can decide if you want to go through all the hassles of an electric fan.

Electric Fans

I agree with mrwizard. I would fix the overheating problem before installing an electric fan.

What you have picked out is fine, you need a puller, not a pusher. Also, the only main advantage to an electric fan is the gain in horsepower, like 2 or 3 by not having a fan spinning.

I have to ask why replace the radiator. Have you made serious engine mods or something. I have gotten several radiators recored, rodded, whatever you want to call it for about $100, and they are as good as new.

Talking Electric Fans

In a 87 f-150 I put a 460 in my truck from a 302.

The vehicle is jacked up about 4 inches

I put the engine in at a angle..

When I put the engine in an angle the fan sticks a little bit over the rad. In which I can not install a fan shroud.

So my thought was since I can not put a fan shroud on why not put an electric fan there.

My thought was that :
A electric fan with no fan shroud has to be better than a normal fan with not fan shround (((( MAYBE NOT ))))

Today I put in a high flow water pump and it took it longer to reach 230 but it still did...

The old rad is clean but is at least 16 years old...

I will keep everybody posted on what happend when I replace the rad...

Wish me luck...

Thanks for all the information...

You helped out a bunch....
