Well i just put on a new ac compressor and got everything back tgether and bout a couple days ago or so my belt is squealing. I can put water on it and it will stop squealing until the belt warms up again. So im trying to figure out the problem...all pulleys are ok. Belt looks to be in good shape. The tensioner is good..and like new since i had to buy another a year or so ago. The belt is on tight.
Make certain the pulley alignment is true. V-belts have to be pretty far off for this to be a serious problem but serpentines don't like misaligned pulleys at all. Short of the alignment, check that none of the pulleys are putting extra drag on the belt. You can sometimes determine this by cycling the A/C on and off to check the compressor pulley and turing the steering lock to lock to test the PS pump pulley.
Take the belt off and spin each pulley by hand, see if any of them feel rough when turning them pay close attention to the tensioner pulley and idler pulley.
I don't know if i told this story on another thread before, but when i was in Auto tech in high school i had a friend who was a big Chebby fan. he had a 90's Camaro that sounded like a bird was stuck to the front of the engine. A constant chirp. So since he couldn't afford a new belt at the time he used some powder called Comet, which is a cleaning powder. He would sprinkle this on the belt as the engine ran and it would quiet it down for a few days. You might try it. And check the underside of the belt for ant sticky spots or shiny spots that might cause it.
Update: new belt shredded on me. Yeah it was tight puttin it on like real tight. Went to advance and it was the one they said was for it with a bronco with 300 and manual trans.
Did you take the pulley clutch off the A/C Compressor? If so maybe it wasn't pressed on all the way causing a slight misalignment. However you said that belt seems really tight so that doesn't sound good.
I know my dad's GMC Yukon was squealing really loud from the belt. He would put some stuff on it and it would go away for a while but always come back. Upon closer inspection, we noticed his harmonic balancer was wobbling slightly.. Maybe check to make sure that's not the case? Hopefully not because that was a pain job to do but its not super awful, at least on his truck.
Hmm well maybe you were a lucky winner and got a bad belt? Okay maybe not so lucky, but that new belt may have had a defect in it. Did you get a refund on the belt and get a new one yet? I don't see why a new belt would shred while your old belt was fine besides the squealing.
