Hi there,
I have a 1989 7.3 IDI, she's my daily driver and has been running really well for me but recently it has been spuddering for about 5 seconds before it starts, sounding like it wants to fire, just not quite getting it going. I swapped out fuel filters and she's still giving me a little bit of a temper, but starting a little better. I need to get it up and running the best I can before collage starts, any suggestions? Thanks!
How long does the wait to start light stay on on the first start of the day? Depending on air temps it shoud stay on for 10-15 seconds. If it doesn't stay on for at least 10 sec. you have some burned out glow plugs. This would be my guess. Do a check on the glows, if you find any bad ones replace with motorcraft/Beru plugs. Any other plugs don't last, with some burning up after only 1 start.
Air intrusion is a likely problem as well, when was the last time you replaced the return lines? Typicall if your return lines are wet, you have air intrusion and you would do well to get a return line kit from typefour. This is a tricky booger to track down good luck and welcome!
