I have a 1986 F250. The injector pump was replaced with a rebuilt one about a year ago, injectors were cleaned at the same time. New injector lines (rubber) were installed. A new fuel filter was installed.
There are no apparent fule leaks.
After sitting overnight, my truck will either start and idle for a few minutes then die, or not start at all. I usually have to bleed the fuel filter before it starts again and keeps running.
I removed the fuel filter a few weeks ago and it was almost empty. I replaced the fuel pump. The problem went away for a few days and now it is back.
What can be causing this, what should I try next? This is driving me crazy.
Since you have no leaks around the injector return line caps then you might check the mechanical lift pump on the side of the engine block. You can do this by filling the line with fuel, it if lowers in level then the fuel is draining back because the diaphram inside is bad. This needs to be taken care of because sometimes it will allow the fuel to enter the crankcase which can destroy bearings.
Now you can remove the schrader valve in the filter housing and fill through there with a hose and funnel to perform this test.
