86 6.9 glow plug problems
Usually a great running truck just ate eight new glow plugs.
a little background: late last week she threw an alt. belt so took her down and washed off engine with it running. went home changed belts and next day it was hard to start. Thought i hurt the glow plugs with the water check them out with meter. 7out of 8 had no continuity so changed all 8. today would not start so checked glow plugs and all are burnt out. what is going on???

86 6.9 glow plug problems
Last month my "wait to start"light came on while driving and burned the left bank plugs all at once, I put the remaining four good ones on cylinders 1.3.5.7 and the burnt ones on the other cylinders.
I have ordered a set of 4 glow plugs from rockauto.com, can't find the right models here in France . With only 4 good plugs and with the remote switch it is starting fine, on the other hand my compression is very high, I suppose that's why the other cylinders fire up OK.
Just my 2 cents worth but I think but I think the controller is not absolutely necessary, the very old diesels had a pushbutton and a wire coil on the dash, you kept the button pushed until the coil was glowing and fired them up. This is about the same system.
