Hill Fire - LPF

For those who would like information on the ever growing fire in Hungry Valley... Info as of 08:00 this morning.

Airtankers: 07, 43, 74, 75, 76, and 78.
Current Acreage: 689 Acres
Peak Acerage: 1500+ Acres
Containment: 60%
Est Cost: $868,900
Structures Threatened: NONE
Structures Destroyed: NONE
Total Personnel: 316

Remarks:

Pushed by light east winds, initial reports put the fire at 2 acres. The fire rapidly grew to 200 acres within the next hours fanned by erratic winds. Fire, visible from the I-5 corridor resulted in numerous reports prompting a multi-agency response. USFS assumed Command as a Type 3 IMT and established a unified ordering point. Ventura County entered into Unified Command until 2100 hrs of the Incident. Late in the afternoon, the fire made significant runs to 400 acres threatening the wilderness, public camping areas, riparian regions, sensitive areas. The Type 3 IMT mounted a safe and aggressive air and ground assault, slowing the fire until the end of the burning period. During the evening hours, several motor vehicle accidents occurred, necessitating a response from Incident personnel. A complexity analysis considering values at risk factored in the decision to order a Type 2 IMT. During the evening of the 23rd, the Type 3 IC submitted a large resource order staffing the night shift and following day operational period with the exception of overhead positions. At the midnight in-brief, the local Ranger District and Type 2 IC decided to delay the planned transition. Supporting the Type 3 IMT with needed overhead extended their effectiveness while accomplishing incident objectives and maintaining a safe and efficient span of control. Official transition occurs at 1800 on 6-24. The fire has settled in remote, steep terrain necessitating crew shuttles, providing re-supply challenges. Lines will be strengthened over the next 24 hours and interior mopping will begin. The fire lies within the USFS LPF DPA with a small portion in Ventura County SRA / DPA. While significant progress has been made towards fire containment, the risks of spread remains as alternative contingency plans are being developed by IMT.
