Wheels refinished?
I have an XLT and the wheels are peeling badly where the wheel weights have been put on and around the lug nuts.
Anyone ever have their wheels re-finished or chromed?
I have had a set of aluminum wheels repainted and unbent...came out nice. Many years ago. $100 per wheel. Shipping was expensive.
Are our wheels aluminum or steel? Can they be chromed if they are aluminum?
Not sure if its worth the effort or cost.

I would assume on your 2002 XLT you have aluminum wheels. These trucks came with steel and aluminum. Either aluminum or steel can be chromed. I had a set of aluminum wheels chromed 10 years ago. If I remember right it was quite expensive. I think $600 for a set of 4.
If yours are aluminum you could strip the clear off of them and polish them all the time or have them polished and re-cleared. I have aftermarket aluminum polished wheels. In the 5 years I have owned them I have pulled them off 3 or 4 times to give them a thorough polishing. Other than that I just keep them clean.

....the problem is that I bought this truck with 195,000 miles on it from my employer and it was rarely washed in the past 10 years....maybe once or twice since it was purchased. At best.
The problem is the clearcoat is super thick...so stripping it would be a nightmare....
I guess its an excuse to get aftermarket wheels...then again....I dont think trucks looks much better with aftermarket wheels...maybe I could find a set of newer Ford OEM rims...
