I recently bought a 2011 F250 Lariat and was on the highway with the cruise set at 72mph and my truck kept shifting into 5th gear when I went down small hills. Is this some type of cruise control to prevent you from speeding down hills? Is this normal? And these were not even big hills.
This is not my first super duty. Previously had a 2005 6.0 and loved the truck. Just hated the injector problems. I don't remember that truck doing this gear changing thing.
Yes, this is reported as a normal (unliked) behavior..
a workaround is to use Manual mode and lock to 6th gear.
apparently the strategy is to downshift (to do complete control) vs let up on throttle (which leaves speed increase still possible due to hill angle..)
I just press the resume/cancel button if I don't mind an increase in speed going down a hill. Once the speed settles back to where I want it I again press the resume/cancel button to return to cruising.
