OK I bought a 99 ford f350 7.3 turbo with superchip dually 65k mile on it automatic transmissionm some banks stuff all previously installed. I am new to the deisel world so this is all pretty new to me. When towing my jeep going down hills I turn the overdrive off and the rpms drops to idle and my jeep starts to push me down the hill. I was always taught to downshift to slow the truck down with the engine so not to burn up brakes. This is also the case if I drop it into 2 or 1. The truck drives and shifts normally. Is this normal operation? Any info would be great? Exhaust brakes? Just kinda lost and need some direction or advice thanks
have nothing to offer ,but not sounding right. One would think, you downshift, the rpm's go higher...Have yuo removed the chip and try the hill or street, downshifting in that matter/
Sounds like something in the chip is unlocking the TC...those Superchips are what they are, you would probably do yourself a justice ( and have a better running truck) to check out Diesel tuning products for Ford PowerStroke , Jody is always on this site and his chips work fantastic. Welcome! Sounds like u got a nice truck w/ low miles.
HUH so the powerchip will effect the transmission and shift points? Is there anyway to find out what the chip is programmed to do? Are they custom to each rig?
Superchips are typically just generic tunes...and Yes, they change your trans settings in the chip...The DP Tuner chips change things too but in your case, you could tell Jody not to unlock your TC and so forth to customize it a bit towards your needs.

Welcome to FTE.
Did you get the Superchip programer with the truck. That is the only way to get your PCM back to the stock setting without having to go to the dealer for a flash. You could always send your PCM to Jody (DP-TUNER) to have the stock setting put back.

Or do what I did. I bought my truck with an SC on it and no programmer and just left it. I then ordered a DP Tuner with a free stock tune on it which overrides the SC with no problems. Killed 2 birds with one stone. Got rid of the SC programmer and got a very good switch on the fly custom tuner with a stock tune, daily tune, towing tune and a decel tune which acts kinda like a jake brake which you can switch to on the fly.
Gauges to monitor temps are in order too if you don't already have them, especially with a tuned truck.
Also Thunder Monkey. It helps everyone if you build a signature telling what year, model, mods and such are on your truck. There are a lot of guys on here willing to help that know a LOT about these trucks, welcome.
ok the chip makes me fail emissions here in AZ. So I disconnect the battery take chip out and reconnect the battery. Take it down test the truck passes with flying colors. reinstall the chip. So wouldnt the truck go back to stock settings once I removed the chip? I do like the chip it has a significant change in power when towing. So if the chip makes the TQ disconnect whats a good way to slow the truck during decents? Yes I have EGT,boost and trans temp gauges

I would highly recommend a set up like mine (DP Tuner). There are other switch on the fly chips guys love on here too. Canned tunes like your SC are generic and do wake your truck up, but are limited and you are stuck with what you have, where a custom tuner you can switch on the fly to other tunes. For instance, I drive around town with my 80HP economy tune and love it. When I tow I switch to 80HP tow tune with different shift points designed specifically for my weight 6k lbs trailer. When I come down a steep grade loaded or not I switch to decel tune and it slows me without using my brakes much.
Below is a picture of my tuner just right of my steering wheel with the #2 on it. I can switch on the fly using this and it plugs into my PCM.
WA_PSD. Makes sense but would a jake brake be a solution or would that just cost me more money then replacing the tuner? OH and cant figure out where to edit my signature. looked in user CP and couldnt find it.

The "kinda like" a jake brake thing I speak of is just one of many tunes you can add to your custom tuner and switch in and out of while driving. Check out DP or another and decide for yourself. I paid about $400 for my tuner with the tunes I wanted on it. You can add up to 16 on a DP tuner with each one added costing $ except for Stock and No start.
PHP is another tuner a lot of guys like too.
User CP under signature. You may need 25 posts first.
If my TQ releases then a jake brake wouldnt slow the truck at all cause it isnt attached to the drive train. need some real help here to point me in a good directions really dont want to burn up trailer and truck brakes
Couldnt find the tuner you speak of on the site? Which tuner specifically did you get? is it just a turn ****? to switch between tunes or does it have a screen hard to tell in picture

Most SuperChips for these trucks are "Programmable" that you hook up to the OBDII port and program into the computer and this will change the 'Shift Points' and the RPMs at certain places. Do you have a 'physical' 'Chip' that you put in and can physically remove? As for the 'RPMs' going to 'idle' when going down a 'incline', the injects will slowly close and sometime comes to the point of shutting down and the truck will be 'shut off'..... Real freaky when this happens and you realize that the truck is 'off'..... but it will 'fire' right back up when given a little 'gas' or it gets a 'load' on it.
Do you have a Programmer or is the SC a physical chip?
