1971 F250 - Neutral Safety Switch Location

Hi,

Where is the neutral safety switch located on a 1971 F250 with automatic transmission?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, I should be in top of the steering column about a foot off the floor. It will look a little like a gear selector.

Be careful about the actuator arm, it just clips into the shifting tube and if it's broken or popped out, you will have to remove the column to fix it.

I've taken the horseshoe bracket off holding up the steering column and still do not see anything on top of column from firewall up. There is an opening on top of column with wire harness coming out, although that is it. Any ideas? Is it closer to shift lever inside column?

Yes the column has and opening on the top where the actuator stick out and the neutral switch is there also its black in color with I believe four wires coming from the black plastic switch, all this is closer to the firewall

Chris, You only asked where it was, sounds like you may have found it.

None of us can see it or has any idea what a previous owner may have done.

Does your truck try to start in gear? If so , the last owner may have chopped up the wires and took out the safety switch.
