Since my F250 is a 6.0 I know what some good useful tools and items to keep in the truck to get by with. Since we got our V10 Ex I wanted a similar kit of essentials that are good to have just in case but I don't really know what that might consist of. So what are some items that you carry to keep you on the road. Got a little vacation coming up and will be driving at night when not much is open other than a WalMart and want to be prepared. Thanks.
Maybe a spare coil pack...if it make you feel better. I don't take anything special, just my regular tool box with wrenches and sockets. Mine has 187k on it, maybe I put more faith in it that I should, but I don't worry about it much.
Mines got 165k on it, no issues that I know of engine wise, there is a burnt smell at rear but may be exhaust, the rear end is pretty dirty but no noises, need to check fluid I guess, under engine and granny is spotless.
I would go with the extra COP and the tools to change it. Maybe change your serpentine belt and keep the old one for a spare. Make sure your jack works.

...and a 1/2" drive breaker bar to loosen the tensioner.
On long trips I always bring along a small tool box full of various screwdrivers and wrenches Standard and Metric. I also bring extra trans fluid, oil, 5 gallons of 50/50 coolant, extra rad hoses and a serpentine belt. I also make sure my jack is working and all those assorted tools are there under the hood as well as make sure my spare is fully inflated and in good shape. Some people call it overkill but as they say " better safe than sorry"
I carry my tool box on our RV trips...but to be honest...I've got my AAA card for anything I don't have a tool/part for...a tow off the interstate is what I'll need most.
A broken rad hose...well you can make a temporary fix with a plastic water/soda bottle...cut the bottle to make a "wrap"...and use duct tape...oh yeah...I always have duct tape...then just fill the rad with water to get you where you need to get...
5 gallons of 50/50 antifreeze?...WOW...were you an eagle scout! j/k...LOL...
My philosophy...I've got plenty of tools...and no matter what part I brought...I'd have the wrong one...
Thankfully as Monsta says...these engines are very reliable...mostly...
I take a small tool kit and my code reader. And I have my Good Sam tow service if I need it. Last year on vacation had a coil go bad on me. Don't know why but new it was either the coil or the plug by the way the truck was running. Code reader told me which cylinder it was so just stopped by an auto parts store and bought a coil and a plug. Gambled it was just a coil so I just changed that and was on my way. Maybe 20 minutes. Still have the plug in my tool kit. Good luck, John
