Regen observations

Wow, the new Edge CTS was fun to watch the regen. Just want to know if you guys see the same thing (compare notes) So the Edge red R came on at 2.66 (soot%) then a full 2 minutes later the message came on. At the point the cleaning exhaust message came on I was at 800 degrees on EGT 4. I was picking up my 5er and didnt want the cleaning to cancel, so I hooked up the camper without puting the truck in Park as I assumed this would cancel the regen. It kept going whilst I went from reverse to drive and back while I hooked her up, regen still ran/runningthe whole time while idling in drive (parking brake on). Went to tow haul mode, and pulled the 5er out then the EGT 4 went up to 1200 while EGT 1 hovered around 800. So when I got home I idled for a few mins in nuetral and at .98 the red R went out. Pretty dang cool, only because due to my driving habits I always got the cleaning message while pulling into the driveway. Now I can ensure the thing is clean by watching the Edge. I felt the hot air comming out of the tailpipe while it was cleaning, pretty smokin hot!!! So start 2.66, stop .98. Doesnt quit working while shifting around gears while stopped, or in nuetral. Would it stop/canel if I put it in park? The EGTs never got to 1400 and once I got the soot down to 1.5 it moved down to .98 pretty quick. Thanks gents. Mike

Yea, that is damn cool. Do you know if the scangauge II is compatible with the 6.7L? I'm assuming so but not sure on its capabilities compared to the Edge. Would this be the Evolution CTS Diesel you have? Has a hefty price tag.

Edge Insight Color Touch Screen. I have a scan guage and a couple of items seem to work, but overall really wont work. Cant find anything on PIDs for the 6.7. There a lots, well quite a few. interesting ones built into the Edge Insight, which is just a monitering device. The evolution is a programmer I believe..

That is interesting, so stop and go traffic and idling wont cancel the regen, only park and obviously shutting down.

A few seconds on park and neutral will cancel a regen.
Sitting at a traffic light when this truck was new (I'm taking summer 2010) the regen would cancel I noticed.
You could tell because the tone of the engine went back to normal after a few seconds and instant MPG gauge was back to normal after a green light.
After the first or second flash came out, the regen continued without issue.

Interesting, I have had the factory flash screen come on within second of the CTS Red lamp a couple of times; I have not waited more than maybe 40 seconds and that was the first regen observed with the CTS.

Typically when my soot is just below 1.5% I will see the Regen Status go to 'off' and shortly following the Red lamp will go off; the EGT4 will stay elevated and the soot will drop to about 1.25.

One time (and I am on Interstate at 60 MPH in construction zone) it dropped below 1.5 and regen went off then about 1 minute later regen came back on. That total regen time was 14 minutes; typically they are just less than 9 minutes for my truck.

My truck is going into regen between 110-150 miles.

I was idling in neutral for several minutes while hooking up the power plug, retracting the landing gear, walk around, chock removal, closing hatches, got back in the truck and the red R was still lit on the edge, soot was 1.7 and when I put her drive and took off, EGTs climbed right away from 890 and soot continued to drop as EGT went up. I assumed like other that not driving 35 or so would cancel or maybe at a stop light. I really worried about the DPF not getting clean because I dont drive all the time when the message comes on. I read that if the filter is 200% full (as indicated on the techs IDS) even if they attempt a manual regen, it wouldnt help and a new filter would be on me...no warranty for not obeying the command to drive while cleaning. So when I got home, the red R on the edge was still on and soot was at 1.2 so I put it in nuetral again and idled it at 1300 and watched the egt and soot level. The soot continued to drop and below 1 the red light went off. Idle time was probably 5 mins in neutral. Now my engine purrs when it is in regen. I cant tell any difference in engine tone, no diesel knocking, no lags, bumps etc. It appears park may be the only thing that may cancel. It is good to know I can idle in neutral and let it finish cleaning. While I was towing today the EGT #1 was at 980 and #4 was around 900 and the soot numbers were not dropping, thought that was weird. I was towing above 9,000 ft for the 2 hour trip to the camp site. The IAT was 110 so maybe the air was too hot and thin to cause the filter to burn off stuff. I wonder if the high idle mod would cancel a regen, say flip the switch in the driveway and maybe wash her while she idles away the soot. Roast up a weeny or two perhaps at the tailpipe for lunch and dry off those wash rags real fast. Why waste all that heat.

I used to watch the Regens and pay attention to my Edge. But lately, I just let the truck do it's thing and not worry about it.

You are almost always connected to a trailer so that helps keep things a bit more healthy.
Around town driving, I pay closer attention.
On the interstate or towing, I have caught a regen near the end a few times.
Look over at my CTS and EGT4 has been 1100+ degrees for awhile.
I guess that means I'm keeping my eyes on the road!
