Not sure if this post should go here or in the apperance section, but I am going to ask anyhow. My question is does anyone know if Ford has changed the new color of Sonic Blue??? I know that it is a 2003 color so would they tweak it already??? The reason I ask this question is that back in November of 2002 my girlfriend and I saw our first real life 2003 SD painted Sonic Blue at a dealer in Springfield, MO. Before actually seeing it I was debating on how the color would look on the truck. Seeing it in living color I really liked it, it was bright, but not overbearing. It looked a lot like the pic of the dually on the front of the 2003 brochure I have. Anyhow, in March of 2003 I ordered my new SD with Sonic Blue. No dealer in my immediate area had any vehicles that where painted this color but I was not worried because I had seen one in Springfield. Now, my concern is that a few of the local dealers have gotten some Sonic Blue vehicles, including Mustangs, Rangers, and a SD. When looking at the vehicles it now looks like it has a purple hue to me, enough so that I am worried that I will be a laughing stock among my friends when they see it. I thought that since it was overcast that day that it was just the light playing tricks on me. I went back on a clear day at it still looks like it is purple. It is not what I remembered from the SD in Springfield. My girlfriend thinks I am nuts and says it looks blue to her. I took some honest independent sources with us (her 12 and 7 year old nephews and 8 year old niece, kids always say what they see and don't try to sugar coat it. ) Two said it was dark blue, but the 12 year old said it looked kinda purple. This truck should be coming in sometime this week or next week. I must admit I am getting really worried about this color thing now. What is everyone else's opinion???? Sorry for the long post.
My truck, which should be here in a couple weeks also, is Sonic Blue. I think it's a great color, it is VERY blue. But in the bright sun, if you stare at it long enough, might give off a slight purple hue. If your friends give you crap, just run over them!
What did you get? When did you order? I wonder how close they were on the line?
Thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate it. My girlfriend is probably right when she tells me that I am just worrying too much about this. The vehicles that I looked at said Sonic Blue on the window sticker so I know that I did not get them confused with True Blue ( my parents own a 2000 Cobra convertible in True Blue another reason I am sure that is not what it was.) I went into the picture galleries and found four or five 2003 SD with Sonic Blue. They all looked like what I remember from the dealer in Springfield. I guess my eyeballs are just messing with me. I really do like the color. Nothing I can do now anyhow, the truck is already ordered and should be here soon, I hope anyhow.

if ya look at my signature at the bottom you can see some of how my truck will be equiped. I also am getting the heaviest suspension for the Warn mulit-mount 9000# winch that I run on my truck, heated seats, and heated TT mirrors, manual 4X4, TT package, and receiver, and 6 disc CD changer. They had a special going in my area where you got a 500 dollar discount if you ordered the LS rear, auto, and 6 disc changer so I saved money by going with it instead of the single CD. One last question for you is what part of Oregon are you from? I live in Arkansas now but I grew up in Oregon and most of my family still live there.

I have that color, two tone with silver on the bottom.
I agree. It has a purple hue to it in some lights...but overall, as I approach it in a parking lot, it looks VERY sharp. it's really a deep blue in most lights. i think it has something to do with the metallic quality of the paint...but what do I know!
Mine's also an '03 Sonic blue and a few people told me they thought it looked purple too but I just can't see it:
Some guy at a gas station with a diesel Ram 2500 said it looked purple to him. I told him to roll up his windows because his truck's diesel exhaust must be messing up his contacts!
It always looks medium blue to me in twilight or direct sun. The funny thing I noticed with it is how it looks dark blue sometimes and brighter blue other times. I didn't get picky about the color because I bought it off the lot-I just didn't want black or white. I really like that estate green color but this one was outfitted the way I wanted. You'll be happy with it once you get it.

Howdy. I live in Newberg, about 35 miles south of Portland. My parents still live in Bend, I'm over there as often as I can to fish and hang out.
Funny, my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts too. I could not make up my mind on the color and would wander the Ford lots for therapy. She calls me a truck nerd. I can handle that.
I too have a 2003 Sonic Blue SD with the two-tone silver. Many people have commented on it's purple hue. Sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can't. I love the color. It seems to change from a lighter shade of blue to a darker shade of blue-purple in the shade. Your girlfriend is not nuts. I notice the hue at times. The truck looks real sharp when it's all shined up.
MountianHound...that's a great color... I wouldn't worry ArkansasFordman...that color is really sharp. I'm a big fan of RED...but this is one great color. Enjoy the truck..keep it clean and shiny...that's one thing about deeper colors..you gotta keep up with it to really enjoy the color. Lisa
