Anyone have any recommendations for an undercoating? I'd like something that I can put on just about everything you don't see (chassis, underside of the cab, areas in the cab that will be covered by things like the headliner, inside the doors, ect), the less prep the better as I have no idea how I'd really properly prep the inside of the doors for example. I'd just like something that I can spray/brush on, will stick to about everything, and will protect it from here on out. I'm no so concerned on how pretty it is verse how well it works, I plan on using my truck pretty hard and don't want to find the floor boards rusted out from the bottom side' sorta thing happening.
I was thinking something like POR-15, but I don't know how well that sticks to old paint or whatnot. Anyone have any recommendations?
I used 3M rattle can undercoat on the front & rear fenders. Good stuff.
POR 15 on inside cab corners and doors, however, everything was shot blasted first.
I used the 3m spray on stuff great product need sholtz gun to apply great bondage i coated evrything twice two coats. But i did my under cab with rattle can 3m and not the same quality though.
Im doing frame off next year and will use POR15 on fram and suspension. Lizard skin, 2 coats all internal of truck. Rhino lining sprayed on underside of truck. Will be on a rotiserre so I have lots of access. Then, Sound mat inside to quiet it more in the doors and over the wheel wells. Once its all done I will spray fluid film on everything underneath. Overboard, yes! Will I have to do it again, EVER...NO!!
Personally and professionaly (new truck installations) I use SEM Products Rubberized Undercoating, part number 39523. The company I work for does all new body installs for local dealerships and this is the best undercoat we have found. And the best part is its paintable. We purchase paint direct from BASF and 3m(who both also offer undercoat) but have found the SEM product to be superior.
We also use Fluid Film to coat the bottoms of cabs and chassis when customers request the process.. this stuff is amazing. Stops rust, prevents rust, penetrant, lubricant, you name it this stuff does it.
