I'm a noob to forums and glad to say this forum gets my first post ever.......I just bought a 1964 f-100 shortbox fleetside and I'm looking to change a few things on it. First of all I'm wondering about changing the front clip. I want I.F.S and disk brakes to improve ride and stopping power. I'm also looking at lowering the ride height to give it the look I would like. I'm not necessarily interested in going to bigger wheels but may if it's needed. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I will probably pay to have the work done. I'm wondering about front-clip replacement options. I've heard mustang II front ends are popular as an upgrade option. Any advise on what I should do?
There's a tech article mainly explaining 50's thru earlier 60's front end swap; under (Articles / Specs at the top of the forum) read it and determine if you can go this route; I recently restored a 64 and kept the straight axle, and currently added power steering and brakes. (Kept mine all Ford; but wish I've used the toyota steering box for more clearance. (that's a cool option) My next upgrade is to install Speedway motors front disc onto my straight axles.
Also search this forum for upgrades; several members have done swap / conversion with these style front ends. Not to harp on ya but folks here will inform you that the type of body you have on your truck is a styleside (Fleetside is a chevy term) doesn't bother me; but some folks are pulling out what hair they have left. lol

SO! That's what happen to Garbz hair! i always wondered about that...
i agree with Mitch, a dropped axle from Sid's, Disc brake kit from speedway motors, and a toyota PS box is another good way to go.
Thanks CC, I guess I've given away the fact that I've had mostly chev's over the years. My first truck as a teenager was a 78 1/2 Ford shortbox "styleside" and now that I'm old enough to have another toy ta play with, I lucked onto this 64....I have alot of ideas in mind for the future and look forward to getting more helpful info on this forum.....
That's sweet! I've found now that my '64 may in fact be a '65. It has the dual I-beam suspension up front and the grill looks to be a '65 as well. Will that same kit work in a '65 chasis?
might be wider but looks soo good in my uni plus it drops it 5 inches right out of the gate
Jack, let's not start this crap again... i think they are not safe, even the guy who installed the very first one over on the 4bt forum removed his. why is that?

I have no idea as I do not have a 4bt and do not belong to a 4bt forum .
and yes I know you hate them for what ever reason guys in the bump forum been running them with big blocks with no problem and they weigh more than my uni and guys in the orphan forum been running them for a couple years and plenty of miles and noooo problems just saying as I won't say other thing about a cv or debate it as I don't want to be dragged down this road again lets have a drink and get along
