How do I tell what cfm carb I have it is a Rochester Quadra-jet I believe its for a chev 350 I have it on my 400m and its not running very good runs pretty rich and doesnt like cold weather electric choke
Q-Jets came in two "sizes": a 750 CFM model (the most common, found on Small block Chevs.) and an 800 CFM model that was used on full-size BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) cars; as well as some BBC's. The 750 has smaller primaries than the 800 model.
Jetting is controlled by metering rods mounted on a "hanger" and retained by a single screw in the center of the carb.
Set the choke when the engine is cold; so the flap just closes when the throttle is cracked halfway open. Also check the fast idle speed screw adjustment. Too much and it will jump when you drop into gear, too low and it may stall.........
Hope this helps (I am a recovering Chevy guy )
There is a great book by Doug Roe called "Rochester Carburetors". I think it's published by HP Books.
It has all the info you need.
