SHOCKS:

HI GUYS, I HAVE A 1977 F-250 2WD, I HAVE MONROE HEAVY DUTY GAS SHOCKS ON MY TRUCK AND I AM THINKING OF CHANGING THEM TO SOMETHING THAT WILL GIVE ME A SMOOTHER RIDE, ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Changing shocks won't help much cuz these rigs were built as working trucks - not the cushy rides that engineers these days spend hours and hours to over-engineer for noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). It's the springs ya want to address - shocks (dampers) slow the rate of oscillation but the springs take the jolts.

If you must, go with a hydraulic shock. I have no specific recommendation but shockwarehouse.com carries a variety of shocks for your review.

Does it have helper or overload springs in the rear? They can really give it a harsh ride empty. In mine ('78 F250 4wd) I replaced the damaged original spring pack including added overload springs with the standard 3/4 ton replacement leafs. Huge improvement in ride. I consider it very good for a 3/4 ton. I'm also running better quality parts store gas shocks. Unless you are regularly hauling more than 2000# the overloads are not needed.
