here are some more photos from a hike we did today called the Narrows. it is a hike up the canyon towards the head of the Virgin river. lots of it is in the water or loose shifting rocks. it used different muscles than climbing up and down. there were big holes that we needed to swim through and large boulders to scramble up and over. with no "real" trail to follow. we started early to "beat the heat" but it was cold though hiking out it was warm and the sun was shining right down into the canyon. also the crowds were big so i'm glad we went when we did.

the river before we got to the canyon

start of the canyon trail

Mik's brother wading early - it was cold without the sun at 715 in the morning

more canyon shots

this one is a little washed out but is probably my favorite

Mik decide to not swim but scramble - the poll was easily 8ft deep

Dang! I need to go to Utah. I would love to hike on some of those trails. Utah needs to give you some of their tourism budget because you are doing a great job promoting their state. I'm ready to head west...

That's some incredible scenery Terry, simply amazing in fact!

What is "scrambling"? I'm not a hiker so have never heard of it.

scrambling is .... not rock climbing, but where you are climb rocks using you hands and hold your weight and equipment for rock climbing is not needed. i don't know if that helped at all. and it is beautiful really really beautiful

That is helpful Terry--thanks! I kinda thought that's what it was but wanted to be sure.

That is absolutely an amazingly beautiful natural place----what a great way to spend time!

we went up to the northern section of the park. it required getting back on the interstate to get to. we did two shorter easier hikes to rest and recover. one was a 2.5 mile hike along a stream bed that had to old 1930 cabins the other was an overlook trail that you can see the north rim of the grand canyon from

in the upper right you can see the north rim of the grand canyon

today we went back to bryce's canyon NP for another trip it was very similar to the first. but there were some overlooks where you can get the scope of it.

some bridges

this was parked along the trail. no the keys weren't in it. but now i understand how they make some of the trails

tomorrow we hit the road for WI and Joe I spoke with tyler about the doors. i will let you know what happens as well.

i've been to arches and had a blast but i should come back and do that

hit the road today at 830 stopped about 10PM filled up twice first time was 360ish miles with and empty trailer with a head wind and a 40 miles side trip empty came back 16.14. the next time stopped in grand junction CO and got a whopping 18.19 mpg with an empty trailer (remember i drive 62-64 and the trailer is only 2100-2200lbs and no air resistance). climbed a pass (106xx ft) on I 70 in CO and EGTs never 1200.

had a little problem after that stop the volt meter didn't come up like it normally does and kept falling

so i stopped in glenwood springs thinking i needed an alternator as i went to pull the alt of i found this

well a new copper end from autozone and off we went.

at the first hotel stop i found this lucky for me they were tied in and i didn't lose any tires

got to denver and figured i would stop at the first hotel i found well it was full and so were the next 4 by this time i was 85 miles up I 76 before i found a room. all the wildfires have forces people into hotels and that is filling up the hotels

all loaded up and ready to head east

got the oil leak fixed - i hope - and the oil changed the oil pressure gauge it giving me fits. it used to be sit between the R and the M in normal now it is at the r and then jerks a little bit then falls over the course of an hour or two down to N the back and forth then back where it normally sits for a bit. i hope that it's the wiring or the gauge going and not a LPOP problem

got home about 540 unloaded the trailer. my father hooked up to it and he's leaving for NH tomorrow morning with it.

added up everything. spent $256.09 on hotels $1163.74 in fuel (to PA haven't filled up since then). that bought 318.146 gal of fuel

i went 4959.6 miles to PA (the last fill up) and averaged 15.58 MPGs without the correction for larger tires.

This trip i ran diesel klean till i ran out of it (UT on the way back) and then two stroke oil. i think 2 stroke oil made the truck slightly happier. other than the oil leak and the alternator cable breaking no issues. I figured out my oil pressure jumping around it was a loose connection to the sensor.

books on tape were a great ting. Listened to atlas shrugged for most of the trip and made it through 40 out of 50 discs. ugh 10 more to go don't think i'll make it. next trip will be to MA and NH in early august. and then back to WI with a trailer in Nov for the rest of Mik's things and to help her mom move.
