Completed the package last night - Bilstein 5100s arrived and installed all the way around. Took it out on the same stretch of road (~50 miles) that I'd used after the stabilizer install ... no denying, the change is enormous ... rock solid, super comfortable ride. I'm glad I did this.
i swapped out my stock motorcraft shocks for 5100s at 200 miles and couldnt tell much of a difference really. I thought they were better, til i got them home to some familiar roads, then it was just as bouncy as before. the 5100s are pretty stiff when empty. good shock, but wasnt the night and day difference i had read about. then i swapped out the stock steering stab and that made a difference. night and day for sure. im goin to the 9000xls now and cant wait to see how the adjust-ability does.
well i havent tried em yet on the SD but ive been driving them on another vehicle and they are pretty smooth. again, still havent tried em on the truck on the local freeway that is like driving over a washboard. also just learned that the stock motorcrafts arent a true gas filled shock but are really a hydraulic shock, thus the return rate isnt immediate like the 5100s
based on your experience will this configuration smooth out the rigidity or amplify it
My tires are a little wider/heavier but they made it ride much firmer and took some of the 'body roll' feeling out of the corners. You can tell when you go over expansion joints/cracks in the road, it's a pretty solid feeling where as with the stock stuff it was more of a mushy feeling.
Hard to say what you're lift will do, as I don't know what springs (rate and specific/progressive) they installed. If it's a softer spring it's going to ride different than my stiff spring.
Goin 75to down the freeway over expansion joints would cause such a violent bounce my kidneys hurt. With my stock shocks and the 5100s. And on my 08dads 6.4 non FX4
