Mass Air

I was wondering if you could put mass air on a 91 300-6? I was told the 96's have mass air, so what would I have to do to get it to work in my truck (please don't say "put a 96 300 in it )

There is, but I believe it's for 5.0s and 5.8s.

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

That is a very interresting subject! To my knowledge there isn't a mass air conversion KIT for the inline 6. The reason is it can't use the v8 computers that were set up for mass air use like the popular A9L. However I do believe it is possible but would require some work. You don't need to change your engine but unfortunately you will need to change almost all of the electricals from a 96 truck. MOST of the time all you need to do the conversion is the new computer, wiring harness, injector harness, mass air sensor, and some wiring knowledge. The problem you will run into is the 96 trucks are a type of OBDII computer know as the EEC V. It is completely different than what you have in your 91 (EEC IV). The computer system in the 96 is a literally a nightmare to wire into. The EEC IV system has a 60 pin connector and the EEC V has 104. Or at least that is the case with the V8's, not sure if its different for the 6. EEC V also has an aditional O2 sensor which is positioned behind the cat conv. mostly so you can no longer get away with removing the cat. With the EEC V I would guess you would end up changing most of the underhood electricals just to get it to work right. Steer clear of all the 96 computers!! The results would not even come close to the effort put in.

This is a long shot, but maybe you could find a junked 95 with mass air 300 I6. I don't know if they ever existed but I wouldn't put my money against it since California required some crazy stuff. But a california model would probably have the only mass air 300 I6 before the 96 year if it does in fact exist.

I dont think the 95s exist either, but if they did, 95 cali is your only chance.

Keep in mind that even some of the 95's have been known to have the EEC V system so be very careful and make sure you know exactly what you're buying. It just may be that the 300 I6 never had mass air in the EEC IV meaning that all california models that came with mass air might have recieved EEC V.
