smokin problem

6.0, no chips, 250,000 miles. truck was running great with trailer or not. it stared blowing black smoke on steep grades with trailer. I would let off throttle and then back on and it would quit. took it to a local diesel mechanic, said #4 injector was sticking. replaced it and did egr cleaning and cleaned all other injectors. it has gotten worse now, it will blow black smoke without a load when accelerating. but not all the time. changed fuel filters also. thanks in advance.

Could be a leak in the up-pipes or could be the turbo acting up on you.

I would bet on turbo if all injectors are good. Be glad it is black smoke and not steam when oil cooler / egr coolers go bad.

Do you have a boost gauge? If so, what's the boost level when it's blowing black smoke? Have you checked for codes? If so, what are you getting and what are they?
