wipers

This post also appears in the Explorer forum, trying to cover all bases. It is a 94 Explorer

OK, I have read the long post about the wipers which only work on the high speed setting. I only wish that was the problem. Mine don't work at all. I have changed both the motor assembly AND the governor with no luck whatsoever. The fuse (6Amp) is good and the only thing I am left to beleive is that it is electrical. When the wipers are turned on to any setting, I hear one click from the governor, but no successive clicks (for a delay). Any insight that can be provided for my next step would be greatly appreciated.

That's weird !
6 amps might be for the washer pump but not for the wipers.

They usually have a 30 amp circuit breaker to protect them.

Have you tried using a test light anywhere in the circuit yet ?

I cringed when I read the reply thinking I had looked at the wrong fuse, but upon further checking it is a 6 Amp Circuit Breaker located under the dash and it is still good. I am guessing that at this point it is an electrical issue, but I don't know where to begin. My technological skills lie in phone systems and data networks, not vehicles. Therefore, I ask: what is a test light?

A 6" screwdriver looking thing having a really sharp end <>
with a light in the handle <> with a wire coming out and having an alligator clip on the end for clipping to a ground source.

Clip to ground <> then take the pointy end and touch a connector
or push through the insulation of a wire to see if current is present.

Used to indicate power available at wires, switches, etc
One lead to ground and the other to what you are testing and then lights a bulb. Its a quick way to tell you if you have power available without taking measurements on a volt meter.
They are very inexpensive <$5

I have the same problem with my 97 F150, but i dont know where to began to try and fix the problem...being as im only 17. So what do i do? The only way i have been able to use my windshield wipers ( while its raining) is by pushing the windshield cleaner on the tip of the arm and that makes my wipers go.. but just using the speed setting they dont work.

That sounds more like a fault in the MultiFunction Switch (MFS - the blinker/brights/wiper/hazard switch) than the Wiper Control Module (WCM - behind the glove box on '92-96).

I seem to remember my '99 Ex going in for recall because the multifunction switch was bad...the wipers came on by themselves all the time.
