mirror guard?????
ok I have a 97 expedition 4wd eddie baurer and I have a question about my mirrors. My mirrors have this black metal ring attached to them and I was wondering what they are? I just bought the car a couple of weeks ago and I don't know. Are they some kind of gaurd or what? do they come from the factory with these one them? They are riveted to the mirror are they something aftermarket? I don't know if the last owner made them or what.

They're definitely a home made thing. Nothing factory or aftermarket is gonna rivet on like that. My guess is they helped with attaching some towing mirrors, maybe they helped keep some straps or brackets off the mirror glass. Personally I'd take it off, drill the rivets out and fill the holes with black rtv.
