Need advice!Start losing water out the exhaust.Did a compression test and left rear had 35lbs.So i pulled the left head lapped all the valves, new head gasket, cleaned and checked timing chain tensioners, put it back in time.Did a compression test again had 180lbs in that cylinder 175 next one up,great thought the problem was fixed put all back together and i have valve train noise coming from the left head.I made sure i put same rockers where they came off from but with the valve cover off i notice the lash adjusters are not pumping like the right side.So i have pulled the left cam back off.Is my problem that the lash adjusters just lost there prime?I did not pull them out.But did turn head over and filled the top of valves with gas to see if they would hold gas.If i soak lash adjusters in oil and put back together properely will the problem be fixed?I seen no sighns of wear on cam or anything else.Thank you.

They should pump right back up unless maybe the wrong head gasket was installed and an oil port id blocked going to the head. Are the cam bearing oil holes getting oil?

Yes the cam bearings are getting oil.I tore it down again and soaked the lash adjusters, put it back together and they still tick. But i do see oil coming up to the top of the head.Don't no what else to do.Thanks for replying.I only seen one way that the head gasket could go on

Back in the day we would prime the lifter by submerging it in a light oil and pump it to fill the lifter with oil. I don't see that info in my manual but here's Ford's method for leakdown testing. Sorry the drawings of the tool used won't copy, only the text.

Valve Tappet —Leakdown Test, Hydraulic
NOTE: The leakdown test will not be accurate if it is done with engine oil in the hydraulic valve tappet. Use testing fluid. New hydraulic valve tappets are already filled with testing fluid.

Compress the hydraulic valve tappet to remove the engine oil if necessary.
Place the (1) hydraulic valve tappet in a (2) commercially available hydraulic tappet leakdown tester. Position the (3) steel ball provided in the plunger cap. Add testing fluid to cover the hydraulic valve tappet and compress hydraulic tappet leakdown tester until the hydraulic valve tappet is filled with testing fluid.

Adjust the length of the (1) ram so the (2) pointer is just below the (3) Start Timing mark when the ram contacts the hydraulic valve tappet. Start timing as the pointer passes the (3) Start Timing mark and end timing as the pointer reaches the (4) center mark. For additional information, refer to the appropriate engine section in Group 303 for specifications on time parameters.
