non-directional or what?

I have a 1973 F-600 dump truck that has 9.00 x 20 tires on split rim Firestone wheels. I plan on doing some yard landscaping for myself and my neighbor. The tires are dry rotted and have little life left in them. I have an opportunity to buy 9.00 x 20 non-directional tires for $75 each and they will include the tube.

I live in the high desert country of southeast Arizona. I don't intend to travel on the interstate, max speed should be about 60. I've registered the truck for a GVW of 16,000, so that should be my max payload. I'll be hauling mostly compost, manure, sand, AB, rock, and dirt.

I really can't justify paying big bucks for directional 20's or new rims.
I'll likely sell the dump truck once landscapeing is completed.

My question is, would the directional tires be a decent choice for the truck and the type of work I intend to do?

I think those tires would be OK but are your Firestone wheels the "widowmakers" which are a 2 piece rim that locks together in the center or are they "lock ring" rims that have the outer ring that you pry off? I don't think you will find a tire shop anywhere that will touch the widowmakers.

Those are not "great" tires, but they work just fine for what you are going to do. My dad used to run those (8.25x20 size) on the back of a '48 F6 out into farmers fields to spread fertilizer. He got stuck a couple times, but who wouldn't get stuck in a 2wd truck in a muddy field?

If you can find a better deal elsewhere, buy those, otherwise, mount 'em up.

I read your first post to say you have split ring wheels, not the widowmaker type which was gone as OEM long before '73 iirc.

Wheels are not the Widow Maker style.
They are the two piece split rim that must be pried off.

Also, do those have that cool "Military" or "Military Tread" on the sidewall?

If you "X" the centers they will pull 100% better.

Not sure about the side wall, these are the only photo's I have. The seller said they are Military tires. The seller has hundreds of these tires, they are located in Tucson, the ad is on Tucson CL.

Judging from the responses I've receiced from this post, I'll likely buy a set of 6 and run them on my dump truck. Maybe I should change the color from white to OD green...
