Sluggish 7.3..

'94 IDI Turbo E4OD has been struggling lately. Not sure where to start but when I drive it I have to really put my foot in it to move the ol' girl. She smokes pretty decent on startup and smokes lightly when idling. I've tried different diesel stations, additives, filling the filter w/ atf and letting in sit. Not sure what her problem is, should I advance the timing a tick? It is statically timed right now(marks are lines up) and it has 200,000miles. Looks like a relatively stock IP, maybe time for a fuel system overhaul? Help!! Getting about 6mpg right now, just did all the brakes so no drag. Where do I start?

Do your injectors and IP still have grey paint on them? If they do, You are past due for new ones at 200K. You could try advancing the timing a little (rotate the pump about the width of a dime towards the passenger side) as it won't cost anything. The pump on my 90 had 116K on it when it needed replacing. At 6mpg somethiong is deffinately wrong.

So I advanced the timing, real p.i.t.a. Nothing wanted to move or loosen, anyway, it drives about the same, seems to smoke a little less. The pump still has traces of grey paint, everything else is just rusty and oily. So I guess it's time to replace them all? I figured it get a little out of my advancement, whats up with that? Thanks!

My 90 F-250 was struggling pretty bad itself when I first got it. I could barely pull an empty 16x8 trailer up a 7% grade. Turned out that when my injectors were replaced previously the old copper seal washer was left in and the new one was put in on top of it. Put a new injector in properly and the old boy was running like new.
