My 1995 Ford F150 5.0 4WD ate it's 4R70W in May, and I've found one on Craigslist, I am skeptical however, it's out of a 1997 Explorer 5.0.
Now I may just be plain out paranoid, but I'm not confident it will fit, seeing as '96 was the year that OBD-II came into play, and I know ford did a lot of harness changes around that time to work with OBD-II.
Will this transmission fit my truck? or am I right, that the electronics portion won't match up to the harness....?
Ended up getting a hold of an old boss of mine I worked for in a shop, he said the 97+ 4R70W transmissions are sought after for older (pre-OBS-II) vehicles since they have updated clutches, solenoids and a stronger band, all of it will hook up and operate the way my old one did, but have crisper shifts and stronger hold on power.
Just thought if anyone else was curious, I'd spread the knowledge.
Theres. A trans shop 30 minutes from, that takes the time to answer every one of my questions. I've ever had. I'm surpised the one you called didnt. Good luck with the swap an i'm real interested in how it works in your truck.
