Well i was on a road trip from nebraska to pennsylvania and about 200 miles into the trip i started hearing this hollow knocking noise coming from the engine compartment of my rig i have a 2006 f-350 with the 6.0 deseil in it and found out that the most likely problem with it is that i burnt a valve i was wondering if there was anyway to figure out what valve it would be withour tearing the entire engine apart
Any codes, check engine light? Some codes specify cylinder number.
It would be very hard but maybe stick your ear on the end of a screwdriver and touch the block at each cylinder location to see if you can spot a change in sound. This is how lots of things get found but I know it's very hard with a diesel and getting access to that 6.0 block.
In the end, you only need to narrow it down to one side of the motor, right? That simplifies it a lot.
probably not, gonna just have to try to listen to what side its on (a mechanics stethoscope would be nice) and pull that head.... glow plugs might tell you something if you pull them. but the only way to fix it is tho pull a head.
The hlow plug on te number 8 cylinder is out but my buddy says that with his it did the same thing because the glow plug is on the end of the chain and wont heat up as much as the others
And its not building up enough compression to start so its kind of dead in the water itll sit there and crank but once it his that valve it does build up any compression and its backfireing thru the intake
