Hi all
I had a timing question. I have a 79 150 4x4 with a 400m. It was a frame off restoration, but I had purchased the motor from a ford bone yard with a few hundred miles on a rebuild so I do not know much about what went back in. The truck runs pretty well, starts up and idles fine. What has always perplexed me is that when I throw a timing light on it, the mark is no where near the pointer. If looking at the balancer with the light on it- the mark is clear at 6 oclock and the pointer is about 10 oclock while running. I double checked the balancer mark and it is painted at the right spot. Any idea why this thing would run that far off.
Sometimes the outer ring on the balancer will slip on the rubber giving you a false reading. Just turn your engine over to tdc on #1 cylinder and see wear your mark is.
