97 f350 psd abs issues
I have a 97 f350 psd with some brake issues. The pedal was all the way down to the floor, so i replaced everything except calipers, master cyl res, and the wheel cylinders. Bled everything out and abs light is still on, can not get it to clear. Found a leak in the brake line from master cyl to the abs block, so i replaced the line and the rabs valve because the valve was old and crusty plus the wires outside were saturated in brake fluid.
Keep your foot on the brake pedal as you start the truck and the abs light will go out and stay out, as soon as you let up on the pedal the light will come back on and when you hold the brakes for about 10 seconds the abs and brake lights will come on. let off and only the red brake light will go out.
Does not kick out of overdrive and red light is not on while driving. the brake pedal is hard to push at first then gets soft. as you are sitting idling at a light or something the pedal will kick back at you releasing the pressure on the brakes, have almost hit someone from it doing this. I did not replace the master cyl res either and the cruise recall has not been done. could any of this be my problem? i need help asap as i am at my wits end with this truck and about to just light it on fire. any help is appreciated.
A good idea to try to get the trouble codes (as per links in post). Also you have RABS so code reader not required.
Sound to me like the Master Cylinder is bad, if the pedal is soft and goes to the floor, fluid is leaking around the seals in the MC and it time for a new one.
like i said, everything except master cyl reservoir, front brake lines, vss, calipers and wheel cylinders.
Brake Light Self Check
The red BRAKE warning light is used to indicate a low fluid level condition or parking brake applied condition. To check this light, insert the key in the ignition switch (11572) and turn it to the START position. The light should glow in this position. If it fails to glow, go to the Symptom Chart.
Allow the key to spring back from the START position to the RUN position. At this time the BRAKE warning light should turn off. If it does not turn off, recheck the parking brake to make sure that it is fully disengaged. In the event that the BRAKE warning light remains on, go to the Symptom Chart.
Where can i find this symptom chart? who has this that would be willing to post?
