4x4 not engaging
Hello all I have a 1998 F150 and went out playing today and turn my 4x4 switch to 4h and all it does is click like 6 or 7 times. I tried to go to 4L in neutral and it clicked 2 or 3 times but never engaged. The light on my dash never switched on saying it was engaged either. Has anyone experienced this before and if so have any ideas on what it might be. Ive heard stories of the solenoids going bad but not sure were to start checking. Thank you

there is a vacuum cylinder is on the front end (axle) and you wont hear it... The high- low is electric motor operated and hangs on the side of the transfer case under the truck. Thats probably what you year. If it wont go ho- lo, its the motor. If the hi-lo light comes on and the front end wont engage, then its the axle vacuum cylinder.
