if you do all the bearings bushings, and seals yourself you can save quite a bit (probably around $200). You will probably wan't to get them to the alignment though. Shop around to cause different shops will charge different for labour and parts.
All you need are the hub socket, some regular sockets a BFH to get the knuckle off the ball joints, and the same to hammer them out of the knuckle. Just did mine 2 weekends ago. Upper and lower ball joints plus new wheel bearings for about $225 in parts. It took about 2 days though, so plan accordingly.
If your truck is 2wd, the hardest part would be the ball joints, none of the bushings need to be pressed in except for maybe the I-beam pivot bushings, I have never done those before. Bearing and bushings are a snap. Make sure you take your truck a few other places, I did some suspension work on a 71 LTD, and told the girl where to take it for an alignment, and she took it somewhere else where they told her I did everything wrong, and that it was gonna cost $1200 to fix. I told her to give me the car, I took it where I told her to take it, and there wasn't a dang thing wrong with the car, 1/2 hour for an alignment and I was on my way. Supposedly her friend worked at the other place.....some friend.
Thanks for the replies... I was considering doing it myself, but my dad already made an appointment for it to go in on tuesday. He's gunna loan me the money so i can pay him back in the summer.... thanks dad.
I am going to change my drag link soon and found that Auto Zone will loan tools free of charge, just a deposit is required. I hear there is a tie rod puller, Sounds like it will work much easier than smacking a pickle fork between the joints and possibly tearing up the rubber seals. If all your parts are and good, just the alignments should start at 29.95 if only adjustments are required, GOOD LUCK!
